Guided Tours

A number of interesting guided tours have been prepared for all participants and accompanying persons. Please find the respective schedules and short description below. All participants are kindly asked to meet at the registration area of the Prague Congress Centre 15 minutes before scheduled times. All tours will be conducted in English. The organizer reserves the right to cancel any tour in case there are less than 15 registered persons. On-site requests for guided tours are welcome but cannot be guaranteed.

Grand Tour of Prague

This insightful historical tour lets you enjoy the city’s most famous sights. The tour starts at Prague Castle (Hradčany), registered as the biggest castle complex in the world. It established itself as the spiritual centre of the Bohemian sovereigns from the 9th century and since 1918 (foundation of Czechoslovakia) it has served as residence of presidents. Visit of St. Vitus Cathedral is included. The tour then follows the “Royal Route”, former promenade of the kings and part of the official coronation by foot.  Winding down to Lesser Town and picturesque Kampa Island you will cross the famous Charles Bridge and continue to discover remarkable monuments of the Old Town area. This remarkable journey ends in front of the Old Town City Hall with its extraordinary astronomical clock.

Old Town and Jewish Quarter

This insightful historical tour of the Old Town of Prague lets you enjoy the city’s most famous sights such as the Powder Tower, the Estate Theatre, the Charles University, the Old Town Square, the Charles Bridge with the Prague Castle Panorama, the Jewish Quarter and other sights. You will discover astonishing history of the Jewish community in Prague, which can be traced back to the middle of the 10th century. Miraculously many outstanding monuments have remained intact through WWII. The visit includes the Jewish Museum located in Prague Synanoguges and Old Jewish Cemetery.

Czech Evening at Brew-Pub u Fleku

Enjoy traditional Czech evening in world’s oldest and smallest brewery, dating back to 1499.  Only here you can taste the local famous dark and rich aromatic beer being brewed for centuries under a secret recipe.  The „liquid miracle” will be served with the locally recognized classic: roasted duck with cabbage, bohemian dumplings. Completing the authentic atmosphere of the époque of the “Brave Soldier Schweik”,  a live brass band plays traditional music while dressed in WWI imperial soldier uniforms.

Typical old Czech cuisine not recommended for vegetarians.

Karlovy Vary / Karlsbad

Founded by the Bohemian King, Charles IV, in the 14th century, Karlovy Vary / Carlsbad is the most famous of the Western Bohemian spas. Taste the curative water from twelve thermal mineral springs, admire the beauty of both the historic and modern colonnades, sample some of the delicious wafers special to the area, admire or buy the local Carlsbad porcelain and traditional Moser cut glass works (justifiably referred to as “The Glass of Kings”), or sip the delicious Becherovka herb elixir also known as the 13th “curative” spring of Karlovy Vary. CANCELLATION CONDITIONS
Cancellation of social programme on or before August 5, 2008 will be free of charge. After August 5, 2008 full amount will be charged. Tickets may be transferred to a colleague at any time for administrative fee of EUR 10,-. All refunds will be processed only after the Conference.

Pre-symposium and post-symposium tours can be organised on request.
